Early in the morning we left for Krakow, the former capital and the second city in Poland, where we visited the historic center at the foot of Wawel Hill with its historical and architectural heritage very well preserved and classified by Unesco: the Wawel castle, its Dragon, the Cathedral; the St. Mary's Baslilica and the Cloth Hall on the Main Market Square ...
Around 3pm departure for the SOLARIS, the first Polish synchrotron and the only of its kind in Eastern Europe. This large electromagnetic instrument designed to acceleration of high energy elementary particle for basic research is under construction and depends on the Jagiellonian University of Krakow. A researcher accompanied us throughout the visit to show the operation and features of this machine to the cutting edge of technology.
